Ok, here is my review of the Dead Poet Society - Band stand-up at the The Orpheum Theatre-Memphis. I will note that I saw the 10:30pm show. And now...
Dead Poet Society - Band makes it VERY hard for other comics. I love stand-up. Dead Poet Society - Band, blows everyone away. EVERYONE. There are quite a few comics I really like to see all of the time. He started with quick jokes to get the crowd going. Then, as the crowd gets really comfortable, he slows the pacing down and tells jokes which have more complexity to them while maintaining his true devotion to levity. He then started on some racy political hot takes as he always does. I wasn't sure how our Memphis crowd would handle it, but it didn't matter. Dead Poet Society - Band handled the crowd like NO one could ever hope to do. One guy kept making these weird sounds... Dead Poet Society - Band ignored it for a moment, but then joked on the guy real quick, and 10 mins later, just when you had forgotten about the incident, he inserted the guy making the noises into the joke he was telling at the moment. Suffice to say, no one else really interrupted again. He had total control of the crowd... a MEMPHIS crowd. I loved how relaxed he gets on stage... He prolly smoked a whole pack of cigs. Also, this was all new material that I hadn't heard, and I've seen everything he has released. He did expand on a couple of topics from the last special which was great. He even tackled a lot of the stuff being said about him in the media again, addressing the Daphne Dorman tragedy. Really cool stuff. And of course... by the end of the night I was legit tired of laughing. I couldn't laugh anymore. It was hurting.
